'Ron's Cottage has two comfortable rooms plus a fully fitted kitchen and bathroom, all on the ground floor.

The larger of the two rooms doubles as both a lounge and double bedroom having a large sofa which converts to a double bed. There are two comfy chairs, a television, alarm clock radio and storage space (wardrobe and shelving). An electric blanket is provided for the double bed.

The smaller room has two single beds plus wardrobe and chest of drawers. It also has a television plus an alarm clock radio. All beds have electric blankets.

The cottage is centrally heated and is cosy and warm even on the coldest of days.

A Typical Day at
The Glenholm Centre

  • Wake up to the sounds of the countryside.
  • Enjoy breakfast in the kitchen with a large picture window looking up the glen.
  • Spend the morning exploring the area, perhaps taking a walk in the nearby Dawyck gardens or visiting Tweeddale’s towns and villages.
  • After lunch how about a walk along the glen, discovering more of its scenic beauty?
  • In the evening, prepare yourselves a hearty dinner or perhaps visit one of the local restaurants. The Glenholm Centre offers hearty three course meals at just £18 per head while there is also a good bistro in the village. Further afield Biggar and Peebles have a variety of restaurants seatisfying a variety of tastes.
  • Retire to bed with only the babble of the burn and the hooting of the owls to keep you awake.

Please note that the cottage is non-smoking.

The Cottage (Extra Capacity)

Right next door to Ron's Cottage is 'The Cottage'. In fact the two are semi-detached parts of the same building. The Cottage contains two twin-bedded rooms, a kitchenette (not fully equipped) and a bathroom and is primarily used as the family suite for the Glenholm Centre's guest house accommodation. However, by combining Ron's Cottage with The Cottage, you can have self catering accommodation for up to six/eight people and would be able to retain the lounge in Ron's Cottage as a lounge. The rates for using the Cottage in this way are displayed at the bottom of this page.

Accessibility

Although Ron's Cottage is all on the ground floor there is one step into the house and another in the corridor. Unfortunately the corridor is not wide enough for a wheelchair. The bathroom has a step in shower.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is fully fitted with an oven, four ring hob, microwave, fridge-freezer and dishwasher. All cutlery and crockery (6 sets) are provided together with all required pots and cooking utensils. At one end of the kitchen a small table and four chairs allow you to eat your meals while enjoying the beautiful view of the glen provided by the large 'picture' window.

The Glenholm Centre offers bed and breakfast and evening meals to its guests so is very happy to offer breakfast or dinner to self-catering guests.  Prices are listed at the bottom of this page. The Glenholm Tea Room also serves lunch at the weekend.

The Bathroom

The bathroom has a toilet, wash hand basin and an electric shower within a step in cubicle.

The Farm

The Glenholm Centre nestles within a working farm, stocked mainly with black face and grey face sheep and occasionally resident cattle.  In addition the farm is home to several pet donkeys (some of which are miniature) and Shetland ponies. Visitors to the Centre are encouraged to walk around the thousand acres of fields and hill which make up Cardon Farm, and discover more about life on an upland sheep farm. Four walks are clearly way-marked and interpreted. See the walking page for more details.

Pets

Dogs are welcome at the cottage and other pets by prior arrangement. Being on a working farm, care must be taken that dogs brought to Glenholm and to walk in the glen are kept under control at all times and are not allowed to worry livestock. Special care must be taken during the months of March, April and May when lambing is in progress.

For those whose dogs participate in dog agility we have a small 'arena' equipped with a small selection of dog agility equipment which you are welcome to use during your stay.

Other Facilities

The Glenholm Centre has a modern, fully equipped training room for computer and business courses, away days and retreats. The Centre specialises in computing activity holidays.

A wildlife project launched in the Spring of 2005 introduces wildlife related activities to the glen, including a wildlife pond with an overlooking hide, an area of woodland walks and a shop selling a range of wildlife related goodies plus books and leaflets to tell you all about Glenholm and its wildlife.
