Check Your Carbon Footprint (December 2009)

You Have Been Warned (December 2009)

This message is aimed at those of our members selling directly to the abattoirs, or tempted to do so. In the last two months our insurers have removed cover for Farm Stock to sell to two major abattoirs, in one instance due to difficulties at the parent company. Please remember that we only charge 10 pence per livestock unit to insure 90% of the value of any bad debt, with the remaining 10% being paid to the producer out of our own bad debt reserves. In these worrying times it seems a no-brainer to sell your valuable stock without cover.

New Tagging Rules (December 2009)

Farm Stock participated in the Scottish Office consultation on EID, reflecting the Board’s view that it considers the Full Slaughter Derogation with the retention of the ability to move stock in batches, to be most suitable for all sectors of the lamb industry as each of the other three options will impose substantial demands in terms of increased recording and additional cost.

FarmStock Commission Rate (December 2009)

Please remember the Farm Stock commission rate is capped at £1.30 per lamb and £17.50 per beast. A good point to remember when selling stock, at a time when prices are improving. Lamb valued at £80 with Farm Stock would be charged £1.30 commission, whereas this charge would be £3.20 at a market with a 4% commission rate.
