Scottish Borders

The Scottish Borders is a picturesque stretch of land north of the border with England, not too far from Glasgow. My parents live in this area and we try to visit at weekends as much as possible. The landscape itself is full of gentle, rolling hills and wooded areas that create an enclosed, yet peaceful, atmosphere. In my artwork I try to capture this unassuming beauty and solitude, aware of the soft contours and golden colours. The history, which permeates the region, is also intriguing and inspiring. 'The Tweed at Stobo' conjures up the image of Merlin the sorcerer who inhabited these parts, and the various ruins, such as Melrose Abbey, further enhance this ethereal feeling.
